People seldom ask who is the ‘we’?
Permanence. Permanence? What does permanence have to do with conduct risk? Well, in my own view, it is the one word that sums up whether you will get on top of conduct. And, whether you will be able to put in place a culture of trust, transparency and openness.
If behaviour is the one word that sums up culture. And it is. Then it is to behaviour that we need to turn. Not though, the behaviour of middle and junior management. It is the behaviour of people at the top, because, well it always is if you think about it. They are the ones who need to turn from running culture projects to permanence. When people say that culture is the way we do things around here people seldom ask who is the we? Well it isn't either the permafrost or the frozen middle. It's the top, which may of course be the frozen top!
Conduct risk is actually conduct catalyst. And, if you want that catalyst not to catalyse then it is permanence that you need.
